Three columns of Indian Army have been requested by state authorities in Tripura and Assam to boost security in view of the increasing violence due to the ongoing protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill.

The Civil Administration put forward the demand of the extra deployment amid the rising protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill all over the Northeastern region.

According to Army sources, two columns have already deployed in Tripura and the other is in standby to be deployed in case of emergency.

A single column of the Indian Army approximately consists of 70 personnel of all rank.

In Tripura, one column each has been deployed in Kanchanpur and Manu. The requirement of a third column has been sought from Bongaigaon. The column is on standby, about a kilometer away from the area of deployment.

Meanwhile, Field Commanders and Army headquarters are monitoring the situation closely.

On the other hand, Central government has started withdrawing paramilitary forces from Jammu and Kashmir amid the improve law and order situation in the Valley.

Ten companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been moved from Jammu and Kashmir to Assam. According to sources, as many as 20 CRPF companies will be sent to Assam from Jammu and Kashmir.

A special train has also been started to help security personnel reach Assam conveniently, said reports.
