The minimum fare has been fixed at Rs.7. The bus owners’ association said the fares had been hiked to cope up with rising fuel prices. As the fares were increased suddenly without any notification, some passengers were seen picking up altercations with bus conductors.
As per the hike, the fare of Rs.7 is for a distance up to 3km. For journey from 3km to 5km, it is Rs.8, 5km to 9km is Rs.12, 9km to 13km is Rs.15, 13km to 17km is Rs.18, 17km to 21km is Rs.21 and 21km to 25km is Rs.23.
Guwahati Transport Association general secretary, Pradip Das, said the bus operators had been compelled to hike the fares owing to the unabated rise in diesel prices.
