GUWAHATI: A Guwahati-based western alternative rock band Lady Midday has released a new song ‘Away from Us’ revolving around poaching of one horn rhino on April 11.

Music video ‘Away from Us’ is dedicated to the pride of Assam and released to denounce the poachers.

The band has tried to deliver a beautiful message to save the one horn rhino.

Rhino poaching is an infamous phenomenon in Assam. The one horn rhino is one of the world's most unusual species, amounting to 85 per cent of the total rhino population.

Rampant poaching for their horns had been a menace in the state. According to a census conducted in September 2020, Assam has a rhino population of just 2,640 (approximately).

Since 2013, more than 90 rhinos have been poached, with Kaziranga National Park accounting for the majority of the deaths.

“We felt compelled to do our part in raising awareness about this important issue and educating people about rhino poaching and its global effects in the hope that they can contribute to conservation efforts,” the band said.

The band also urged the authorities concerned to take strict steps to safeguard the remaining rhinos.

Lady Midday was formed in 2014. They even participated in the popular festival of Northeast such as Silversand Carnival, Hozaak Fest, Dawnbringer, Bacardi NH7 Weekender etc.

The band is made up of five members. Himon Choudhury is the vocalist, Hirak Jyoti Kalita and Riaz Ahmed play guitar and Adnan Ahmed plays the bass. Boris Pegu plays the drums.
