UDALGURI: A 35-year-old man has been accused of sexually harassing an 11-year-old girl in Udalguri district of Assam on February 11.
The incident took place at Shonajuli in Dimakusi, when her parents were out and the 11-year-old, currently studying in the 4th standard, was in the house of a relative.
The accused, identified as Shon Talukdar, who is their neighbor, reportedly took her inside a room, where she claims she was sexually abused.
On February 12, when her parents returned home, the minor informed her parents about the incident of sexual harassment. However, they only filed an FIR on February 14th.
After the minor reported feeling "unwell" her parents went to the Dimakusi police and registered an FIR against the accused.

After the victim’s family registered a case against Shon Talukdar, his family threatened them and urged them to withdraw the case. "The family of the accused even offered to pay compensation," said the victim's father.
The victim was also threatened by the accused, who told her not to talk about his advances. He said that he would "hurt the family" if she did not comply.
However, when police began an investigation on this matter, the accused fled. Investigation on this matter is on and further information is awaited, police sources said.
