Guwahati, 20 January 2019:
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, while addressing the Auniati Satra branch inauguration event in Banderdewa, appealed the people of the State to support the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
Exaggerating the need of Citizenship Bill to protect indigenous people of Assam, he feared that the indigenous people would become minority in 13 districts of Assam if the Citizenship Bill is not passed.
Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal said that he will fight till the end to protect and safeguard the interest of indigenous people of Assam.
Expressing his views on the ongoing agitation over the Bill across Assam, he said that he supports protests, but it should be on false propagandas.
He appealed to people of various sections of the society to come forward, together, and show their support towards the Bill.
However, the present Xatradhikar of Sri Sri Auniati Satra, Dr. Sri Sri Pitambar Dev Goswami on Sunday asked the Chief Minister to take a stand with the people of Assam and requested him to raise voice against the Bill, which has witnessed massive opposition and criticism.
