GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has grown richer by more than Rs 1.32 crore over the past five years.
Sonowal has declared it in his affidavit submitted as a BJP candidate from Majuli (Scheduled Tribe) constituency for the 2021 Assam assembly polls. He has declared that he has total assets worth over Rs 3.17 crore as against over Rs 1.85 crore in 2016, an increase of Rs 1.32 crore.
Sonowal's movable assets have increased to more than Rs 1.14 crore in 2021 as against over Rs 70.45 lakh in 2016, while the immovable assets have shown a rise from Rs 1.15 crore submitted in the last polls to over Rs 2.03 crore.

His assets include property, mostly immovable, worth Rs 1.06 crore inherited from his ancestors though.
The chief minister's bank deposits have increased more than three-fold to Rs 38.02 lakh in 2021 from Rs 12.13 lakh in 2016 while the value of his insurance policies have increased from Rs 29 lakh to Rs 43.26 lakh.

Sonowal has, however, declared a loan liability of Rs 27.29 lakh.
The chief minister owned shares in Oil India Limited (OIL) worth Rs 8.77 lakh in 2016 whose worth has increased to Rs 13.04 lakh this year.
