CM Sonowal has no interest on amendment of Assam Accord: Samujjal BhattacharyaSamujjal Bhattacharya likely to announce retirement from AASU soon

Guwahati, January 3, 2019:

All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) advisor, Samujjal Bhattacharya, on Thursday slammed the Cabinet Committee over its decision on the implementation of Clause 6 of Assam Accord.

The AASU advisor alleged that this announcement to implement Clause 6 of the Assam Accord is just propaganda of the government to keep people silent before the Lok Sabha elections. He added, “The announcement of reservation in different sectors is nothing new. They could not do this in the last four and half years. We just need results now, not simply announcements. They should have informed about the percentage of reservation at this stage. The high-level committee they are talking about already exists and this is nothing new to the people of Assam.”

“The government should have made announcements of the correction that has been made in the Bill. No committee is meant to amend the Assam Accord; it is the Central and the State government who will amend the accord. In the last two and half years, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal did not find any time to discuss it which shows they have no interest in amending the accord. We will not accept the burden of Bangladeshis under no circumstance.”
