Guwahati, January 8, 2019:

After withdrawing the alliance with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Asom Gana Parishad Chief Atul Bora on Monday alleged that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal did not cooperate in opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016. He further alleged that the Chief Minister has avoided meeting AGP leaders .

Addressing the media, Bora said: “A few days back I visited my home and my mother asked me to stand with the people of the state and to oppose the bill. I have huge respect for Sonowal’s mother and Sonowal should stand in front of his mother’s portrait and should try listen to his mother’s voice. The same reply will come from his mother too and Sarbananda Sonowal should listen to that.”

Bora added that the state is burning as huge public resentment is there and now it’s a time to act for the safeguarding of our Assamese community.

Atul Bora said that the AGP will provide full support to all the organizations protesting against the Bill and will not allow it to be implemented in the state of Assam. He also added: "For a long time, the people have doubted us but we tried till the last moment and we realised that they will not support us and that is why we broke the alliance.”
