Guwahati, October 7, 2018:
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Gauhati University Hospital, Narendra Narayan Talukdar, has been placed under suspension by the authorities.
On Friday, a B.Tech student had died due to alleged negligence by the Gauhati University Hospital.
The deceased, Himangshu Neog (22), was a 3rd semester student in the department of electronics and communication (institute of science and technology) and a boarder of Gopinath Bordoloi RCC 2 Boys’ Hall.
A meeting was held on Saturday among all stakeholders, prefects of all hostels and the university authorities where a decision was taken to suspend the CMO and institute a probe into the death.
The Gauhati University Hospital was shut down by the varsity students following Himangshu’s death.
Earlier, the Gauhati University Students’ Union had given seven days’ time to the university authorities to improve the condition of the hospital. The students’ body had warned that in the event of failure, it would be compelled to take harsh measures.
