Guwahati, January 9, 2019:

The Asom Gana Parishad(AGP) will hand over its written decision for quitting the State Government and the resignation of the three AGP ministers to the governor today.

The regional party had announced its decision to snap its links with the BJP following the declaration of the saffron party that it would ensure passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016. The Bill has been facing stubborn opposition in the State.

According to reports, the three ministers, i.e., AGP president and Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, Assam Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta, Assam Food and Civil Supplies Minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury will tender their resignations today.

On Monday, AGP leaders had gone to meet Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh at his official residence to discuss the controversial issue ‘Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016’. After the meeting, AGP President Atul Bora in an official statement in New Delhi had announced that AGP is no longer in alliance with BJP”.

It may also be noticed that all the AGP functionaries will vacate their various posts. The decision was taken right after their break-up with the ruling BJP party.
