GUWAHATI: Veteran politician and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Atul Bora has retained the prestigious Dispur assembly constituency by a record margin of 1,21,091 votes.
While Bora polled 1,95,218 votes, his nearest rival Manjit Mahanta of Congress got 74,127 votes.
On the other hand, Ramendra Narayan Kalita of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) won from the Gauhati West constituency by a margin of 77,795 votes.
Kalita got a total of 1,95,218 votes, while Congress’s Mira Borthakur Goswami tallied 58,688 votes.
Both Dispur and Gauhati West constituencies went to polls on April 6.
In the 2016 assembly elections, Atul Bora, contesting on a BJP ticket, won the Dispur seat defeating Akon Bora of Congress by a margin of 1,30,197 votes.
In the 2011 elections, Akon Bora had won from the constituency defeating Atul Bora, contesting on an AGP ticket, by a margin of 8,247 votes.

On the other hand, Ramendra Narayan Kalita won from the Gauhati West constituency in the 2016 assembly elections by a margin of 89,910 votes, defeating Jury Sarma Bordoloi of Congress.
In the 2011 elections, Hemanta Talukdar of Congress won from the constituency defeating BJP’s Manoj Ram Phookan by a margin of 11,326 votes.
