Complaint filed against Papon for kissing minor girl on reality show set

Guwahati, February 23, 2018:

A Supreme Court lawyer has filed a complaint against popular singer Angarag Papon Mahanta, commonly known as Papon, with National Commission for Protection of Child Rights for allegedly kissing a minor contestant on a reality show set, he judges.

Meanwhile, it is reported that a police complaint has also been filed against the singer and he has been booked under the POSCO Act.

A video was uploaded on Papon’s official Facebook page in which the singer was seen applying color on a female contestant’s face and kissing her.

The complainant found the act objectionable. Papon is a judge in singing reality show ‘Voice of India Kids’. The girl was seen falling in an awkward situation after Papon kissed her.

The complainant Runa Bhuyan said in the complaint: “I am shocked to see the behavior of the said singer Angarag Papon Mahanta towards a minor girl where he is seen to be applying colors on a minor girl and inappropriately kissing the said girl. On seeing the video, I am seriously concerned regarding the safety and security of minor girl participating in reality shows across India. I believe that the said singer has committed sexual assault on the minor girl child and therefore prays this forum to conduct an inquiry regarding the aforesaid incident and punish the accused under section 7&8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act 2012.

Further, it is prayed that this forum should set out proper guidelines to protect children from such untoward incident/sexual assault in reality shows across India”.

The video went viral and the various circle has expressed anger at the act. Though INSIDENE has the video, we are not uploading it on our website as it may have an adverse affect on the girl which may in turn demoralise her.
