Complete NCHAC poll process by Feb 15, 2019: Gauhati HC

Guwahati, November 9, 2018:

A bench of judges of the Gauhati High Court has directed the State Election Commission (SEC) and the Assam government to complete the election process of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council by February 15, 2019.

The bench comprised Chief Justice AS Bopanna and Justice Arup Kumar Goswami.

The order was passed after former Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council Samarjit Haflongbar had filed a PIL.

In the PIL, he said the council’s term had expired on June 3, 2018 but the state government extended it by six months on the ground that the officers and staff of NC Hills were engaged in the updation of National Register of Citizens.
