The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) is all set to stage protest against privatization of Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) airport on Monday. Addressing a press conference, APCC president Ripun Bora said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is destroying properties built by the Congress. Bora alleged that the BJP after selling the resources of Assam have now given the airport on lease to Adani group for a period of 50 years.
Bora reiterated that the LGBI airport is the pride and dignity of the Assamese people but the saffron party have privatized it. He lamented that the central government did not even discuss with the state government about privatizing the airport.
The Rajya Sabha member sharply reacted on the alliance saying those who have reacted is their personal decision and not the party’s. He opined that the alliance with AIUDF will be resolved through discussion within the party. Bora also said that his party is ready to welcome the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) if they want to become part of the grand alliance.
Reacting to BJP state president Ranjit Kumar Dass’s statement regarding formation of a new regional party, Bora said das has made such a statement out of fear. Bora claimed that the Congress will win more than 80 seats in the 2021 state assembly elections.
