GUWAHATI: Atul Bora, Assam Minister and President of the regional powerhouse Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), yesterday claimed that the Congress party is a bigger virus than the COVID-19, which has killed lakhs across the globe.

"The Congress party is a bigger virus than the corona. They are trying to tie up with the AIUDF to revive themselves, but that will be to no avail", Bora told media persons on the sidelines of an AGP meet at Upper Assam's Teok.

At the same meet, Bora compared the Congress party to a circus tiger. "The Congress is a tiger of a circus; the ring master of the party is in Delhi," Bora told his supporters.

Bora's attacks on the Congress comes amid criticism levelled at his own party from its faithfuls for stitching an alliance with the BJP party, which has earned the wrath of regional organizations for its resolve to enact the Citizenship Amendment Act.

Bora further asserted that the newly-formed 'Asom Jatiya Parishad' is not a "challenge" for the AGP. "People have seen the emergence of several parties over the past. People were peeved at the AGP in the past; but we have sought forgiveness.

Bora also said that the AGP party is likely to contest the upcoming polls in 2021 in an alliance with the ruling BJP party. "Alliance politics is the need of the hour, which is why we are not looking to contest alone. We will have to take the message from the past and take the party forward. Many youngsters have joined us and we believe that we will be able to move forward. The internal democracy of the AGP is like none other."

Earlier, the AGP president Atul Bora told media persons that AGP has agreed to be part of the BJP-led alliance next year amid mounting speculations over alliances and seat-sharing in the elections.
