GUWAHATI: Angkita Dutta, the Congress candidate from Amguri Constituency, has cast her vote in the first phase of voting today.
Angkita, who went to cast her ballot along with sister Dweety, uploaded a picture flaunting her inked finger along with the caption, "Vote first. Establish your rights. Let's make Amguri No. 1."
In the last election, Angkita was defeated by Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) candidate Prodip Hazarika by a slim margin of less than 2,000 votes.
Yesterday, senior Congress leader and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor had endorsed the Amguri candidate via a video on Twitter.
"She is a wonderful educated politician...somebody who follows in the footsteps of her eminent father. We all know of Dr. Anjan Dutta...a prominent politica figure in Assam. But she has carved out her own path. As a woman of wisdom and right development orientation who dreams of taking Amguri in a new path of development and progress," Tharoor said about Angkita.
Angkita Dutta is the daughter of former Assam Minister and Congress veteran Anjan Dutta. Anjan Dutta was also the president of the Assam Congress in the 2016 Assembly elections in the State.
