Three-time former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has claimed that Congress had done 80 percent of the work of the ‘Bodo Agreement’ and that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has just given it a makeover.
Gogoi said, “We have done 80 percent of the work for the Bodo Agreement. The BJP just applied Lipstick to the Accord and made it look attractive.” Saying that he commented that the BJP was celebrating the little makeover that they had given.

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Gogoi also called Bodoland Territorial Council Chief Hagrama Mohilary an opportunist. “Hagrama will go wherever he sees power. He and Himanta are the same. They will stay with the ones in power.”
Citing the report published in a local newspaper, Gogoi lamented at Mohilary’s statement that he did not receive anything during the tenure of Congress. “Hagrama said that he did not get anything during the Congress’ regime. And during the BJP’s, he said he received a lot. He also expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister. Where are the colleges, hospitals, roads, overbridges and everything that we built during our regime?” asked Gogoi.

The former Assam CM said that majority of the other indigenous people were dissatisfied with the new Bodo Accord. “They are unhappy about this new accord…the Bodos should definitely be given their deserved rights. At the same time, the non-Bodos also should be taken care of. If the majority is unhappy, how can the Accord bring peace to Bodoland?
Speaking on the Delhi elections that are underway, Gogoi opined that the results would show the BJP its popularity and position. He also cited BJP’s loss in the Jharkhand and Maharashtra elections held recently.
