DHUBRI: The Assam state unit of the Congress today expelled former two-time MLA and senior leader Abu Taher Bepari as primary member of the party on charges of anti-party activity.
Bepari has drawn the party’s wrath by contesting the Assam Assembly elections as an independent candidate from Golakganj constituency.
While Bepari was a strong aspirant for the party ticket, the Congress has nominated Abdus Sobhan Ali Sarkar as its candidate for Golakganj in the Assam assembly elections 2021.
Golakganj in Dhubri district of lower Assam will go to polls in the third phase on April 6.
Bepari represented the constituency as Congress MLA from 2006 to 2016. In 2016, Congress nominated Sarkar and he lost to Ashwini Roy Sarkar of the BJP.
