Congress-led alliance will face the brunt of Ajmal’s gamocha slur, says Modi

KOKRAJHAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said the Congress-led grand alliance will take the brunt of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal’s behaviour with the gamocha (traditional Assamese scarf) at an election meeting yesterday in its Assam assembly election results.

Addressing a mammoth election rally here, the prime minister said: “The entire state has seen how the traditional symbol of Assam, gamocha, was insulted yesterday. Entire Assam is burning in anger and they will answer it with their votes. Not only the particular party, the entire grand alliance will have to face the brunt of it.”

“The Congress has surrendered to a community that it had all along treated as a mere vote bank. They are now dependent on that particular community and their party to dream to form a government in Assam. The Congress leadership now says the lock and key party (Ajmal) is the identity of Assam,” he added referring to the recent comment of Rahul Gandhi without naming Ajmal and AIUDF.

Ajmal had lost his cool in an election meeting at Chenga in Barpeta district yesterday and threw a gamocha at the face of one of his supporter’s face in anger. He was there to attend an election meeting of AIUDF candidate Ashraful Hussain.

“This is an alliance of people whom the Congress had used to create disturbance in Bodoland Territorial Region for ages. They are now up in arms to penetrate the region yet again,” Modi further said.
