Finding no way to return to their native places after being thrown out by their employers, over 50 migrant workers have decided to walk over 2000 kilometers from Haryana to Assam.
The workers, who hail from Western Assam’s Kokrajhar district, alleged that they were thrown out by their employers. “We have no money to eat. After cancellation of trains by the Indian Railways we have no other option to go home. Hence, finding no way, we have started walking to Assam with an empty stomach,” one of the workers said.

The country has witnessed an exodus of migrant works after the nationwide lockdown was enforced to prevent the spread of the coronavirus which has infected over 74,000 and claimed over 2000 lives so far.
The workers have also requested the Assam government for help to return to home. “We would like to request the Assam government to help us to reach home. Otherwise, we will die on road while walking to home this way,” the worker said.
