Guwahati, Januaru 8. 2019:

Demanding justice for the students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) who were mercilessly beaten by masked assailants on January 5, the students of Cotton University have observed January 8 as a black day.

Hanging black flags right outside the University gate, the Cotton students have demanded the concerned authorities to expedite the process and punish the culprits behind the brutal attack at the earliest.

Speaking to Inside Northeast, a Cottonian said, "We condemn the brutal attack on JNU students by hired goons, and we demand that the culprits associated be identified and punished."

Alleging that these attacks are orchestrated by the ruling administration from its divisive policies, the student added: "They are trying to divert the attention from countrywide CAA protests by starting to harass the innocent students physically and mentally.

"The goons entered the premises of JNU and attacked the student. After that also, Police and government is acting as if nothing has happened..this is utterly unacceptable", he added, alleging that the police are not taking action as required.

It may be mentioned here that violence swept the JNU campus on Sunday as masked goons barged into the university premises and thrashed both students and teachers with wooden sticks and rods. Hostel rooms and lobbies were vandalized, and many vehicles standing on the roadside were also vandalized.

Claiming that the violence in JNU is a "fabricated incident" cooked up by its Left affiliated students' union, West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh on Tuesday said a probe is needed to find out if JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh was really injured or faked it by using paints on her face.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police has issued public notice in newspapers today asking for evidences, in the form of videos, photos, statements, related to the JNU violence case.
