The second day of counting is underway in Assam with the BJP maintaining a comfortable lead as counting draws to a close. With the results looking encouraging for the BJP, it provides some much-needed relief to a battered BJP in light of their recent defeats in the national sphere.
Moreover, these results mean that Sarbananda Sonowal’s BJP have passed their first litmus test since assuming office. As the voting continues, the BJP are expected to further pull away from their rivals, the Congress, AGP and AIUDF.
After the first day of counting of votes, the BJP party had claimed 481 Gram Panchayat Member (GPM) seats, six Anchalik Panchayat Member (APM) seats and two Gram Panchayat President seats.
