New Delhi, April 28, 2020:

Mohammad Ikram Hussain, a CRPF jawan from Assam who got infected with the COVID-19 in Delhi, succumbed to death in the national capital around 4 in the afternoon today. This is the fist instance of a paramilitary forces personnel dying due to the disease.

The 55-year-old was also said to be suffering from co-morbid conditions such as diabetes and hypertension.

The sub-inspector, who was posted with the 31st battalion of the CRPF in Delhi. had been admitted to Delhi’s Safdarjung hospital for treatment.

On Sunday, 15 CRPF soldiers from the battalion had tested positive for Covid-19, PTI had reported. The soldiers were tested after a head constable, who visited the battalion earlier this month, was found to have contracted the infection on April 21.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal haa condoled the death of the jawan on Twitter. "Deeply saddened to learn of the demise of CRPF jawan Md Ikram Hussain who belonged to Barpeta, Assam. Till his last breath, this brave son of Maa Bharti kept fighting against COVID-19. His undying spirit inspires us to sacrifice everything for the nation. My condolences", Sonowal wrote in his tweet.
