Guwahati, March 13, 2019:

Communist Party of India- Marxist (CPI-M) on Wednesday staged a protest at Guwahati Club demanding justice for Kulsuma Begum, a pregnant woman died after protestors of the eviction drive started clashing with authorities.

The protestor alleged that Kulsuma Begum was murdered in the incident and demanded that justice be meted to her.

It may be mentioned that on March 4, protestors of the Karbi Anglong authorities’ eviction drive started clashing with authorities, which led to many people being injured. After struggling with her injuries for a week, Kulsuma has finally succumbed to her injuries.

The Karbi Anglong authorities carried out an eviction drive near the Lankaijan Forest Reserve along the Hojai-Karbi Anglong area. The KAAC administration, led by CEM Tuliram Ronghang sought to evict alleged “illegal Bangladeshi encroachers” who had constructed many houses in the area after allegedly taking permission from the village headman.
