Troops of the Guwahati Frontier of Border Security Force (BSF) seized 18.5 kilogram of cannabis from Ataldanga village in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal. Acting on a tip off, 192 Batallion troops of the BSF of Ataldanga Border Out Post (BOP) conducted a search operation and seized the contraband while it was being smuggled from India to Bangladesh. The seized items were later handed over to the Sahibganj police station.

It may be mentioned that there have been sharp rise in cross border smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh international border. Troops of the Guwahati Frontier of Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended five Indian cattle smugglers and rescued 101 cattle heads in three separate operations from bordering areas of South Salmara in Dhubri district of Assam on Wednesday.
Acting on a tip-off, on the intervening night of 25-26 August, BSF troops of Border Out Post (BOP) Boreralga, 6 Batallion (Bn) BSF carried out an special operation in the riverine area of Indo-Bangladesh International border and apprehended four Indian cattle smugglers along with 10 cattle heads after hot pursuit, while cattle heads were being smuggled from India to Bangladesh. Apprehended smugglers alongwith seized items have been handed over to police for further legal action.
In the second operation, troops of Border Out Post (BOP) Shishumara 6 Bn BSF carried out an operation in riverine area of Indo-Bangladesh International border and apprehended one Indian cattle smuggler along with eight cattle heads, while the cattle were being smuggled from India to Bangladesh.
The vigilant BSF troops have also rescued 52 cattle heads from different places of District Cooch behar (West Bengal) and 31 cattle heads from different places of district South Salmara on Indo-Bangladesh border, while cattle heads were being smuggled from India to Bangladesh.
