GUWAHATI: Total curfew has been imposed in four areas of the Hailakandi district of Assam following a clash between two groups that later took a communal turn.
A minor altercation between an E-Rickshaw puller and a passenger in the Serispore tea garden area soon led to a massive fight between people from two religious communities Monday evening. The mob attacked each other with sharp weapons, pelted stones at each other, and vandalized shops. A number of people including two police personnel got injured in the clash.

Following the clash, Hailakandi District Magistrate Rohan Jha imposed the curfew in the Serispore tea garden, Narainpur Pt-II village, Itarkandi Pt-I village, and Chandpur village from 10 pm on August 16 until further orders.

Public movement has been prohibited, and all government offices, private offices, shops, and establishments have been closed till further order.
Exemption to the order will be applicable only in case of a medical emergency, Covid-19 duty, and hospital duty, added the order.
