Dacoit arrested in Assam's Golokganj, stolen gold and cash recovered

A joint operation by Bajali and Dhubri Police led to the arrest of an alleged dacoit and the recovery of gold jewellery, cash, burglary tools and a four-wheeler in Assam's Dhubri district, officials said.

The accused, identified as Saharab Ali alias Kalu, was arrested during a raid at North Raipur Part I in Golokganj late Thursday night, September 25, following an investigation into a jewellery shop robbery in Bajali district.

According to police, the robbery took place on September 14 at New Ma Manasa Jewellers on Howli Road in Pathsala. The burglars allegedly broke open the shop's shutters late at night and fled with gold jewellery after vandalising the premises.

The thieves also allegedly took away the CCTV control box in an attempt to prevent the recording from being accessed, police said.

After an investigation lasting nearly 10 days, Bajali Police received information about the suspected involvement of the accused and conducted the joint operation with Dhubri Police.

During the raid, police recovered gold ornaments worth lakhs of rupees, cash, tools allegedly used in the burglary and a four-wheeler suspected to have been used in the crime.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether other people were involved in the robbery and to establish the extent of the alleged network, police said.
