The Supreme Court on Wednesday has made it clear that the last date for the publication of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) will not be extended by even a single day.
A bench comprising of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and R F Nariman gave a "free hand" to Assam NRC coordinator Prateek Hajela who is dealing with claims and objections of people against wrong inclusion or exclusion in the NRC list.
This order came after Hajela said that many people who had objected to the inclusion of certain individuals in the list did not turn up in front of the panels dealing with such complaints.
It may be mentioned that over 40 lakh people were excluded from the first draft of the NRC which was published on July 30, 2018.
