A court in Jorhat has pronounced death penalty to one Sanjay Rajowar, the main convict in Deben Dutta’s mob lynching case. The court also ordered life imprisonment to 24 other convicts for killing the senior doctor at Teok tea garden.
Earlier on October 12, Jorhat District Sessions Judge Court convicted 25 persons out of the 31 accused for killing the doctor. Six accused were declared innocent.

It may be mentioned that on August 31, 2019, the 72-year-old doctor Deben Dutta was lynched by a mob of tea garden workers at the hospital. The lynching of the senior doctor sparked outrage and medical fraternity staged protests across the country.
