GUWAHATI: Assam education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the government will take a decision on High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examinations after Rongali Bihu celebrations.
Due to an increase in COVID-19 cases across the country, the central government yesterday cancelled CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) examinations for Class X and postponed Class XII.

Following Union human resource development minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank's announcements, pressure mounted on the Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) to take similar measures in terms of the HSLC and HS final year examinations, respectively.

Minister Sarma also stated that it would be better if the new government takes the decision.
"Results for the Assam assembly elections will be declared on May 2, but if the cases of COVID-19 continue rising and if the state sees a high surge in the cases, we will have to take a decision on this," he said.

“Not many districts in Assam have been affected by COVID yet, and if we do not conduct HSLC examinations, it will be difficult for us to decide in giving admissions to colleges. Keeping in mind the students’ lives we will take the decision on this,” Sarma added.
