Guwahati, April 2, 2019:

The forest guards of Kaziranga National Park on Monday found a carcass of a male rhino inside the park under the Kohora range.

The authorities of the park suspect that poachers had killed the rhino a month back and managed to flee with its horn.

The Kaziranga National Park hosts two-thirds of the world’s one-horned rhinoceros. Rhino poaching is one of the major issues in the state.

Rhino poaching has escalated in recent years and is being driven by the demand for rhino horn in Asian countries, particularly Vietnam. Rhino horn is used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, its use as a status symbol to display success and wealth is becoming commonplace now.
