Electricity connectivity still a far distant dream for a village in the Golaghat district.
Even after 71 years of Independence and development, Mokron tea estate’s Urang Line area of Golaghat District still lacks electricity connectivity. At a time when technology has touched zenith the village lacks the basics amenities like electricity, affecting nearly 75 families. Due to such nuisance, there only resort is the Kerosene oil lamp, which has now become an important part of their day to day lives. Their dilapidated condition is further witnessed as they make their to the nearby temple to charge their cellular phones. It is known that it has almost been two decades when the pillars for electric connection was grounded, but unfortunately it has not come to fruition till date. Due to the lack of electricity, the village is adversely affected from all quarters viz, politically, socially, economically, culturally. Although demands were made, yet every time it fell on deaf years. Unable to withhold the torments, the villagers have come up to voice their concerns. They took to streets holding Kerosene Lamps in broad daylight to lodge protest against the working of the Power department. They want their demands to be fulfilled at the earliest.
