Dhonmoni Bora, Woman E-Rickshaw Puller, Hailed as Hero of Working Class in Assam

Guwahati, March 8, 2020:

Dhanmoni Bora, a woman e-rickshaw puller caught the Assam public's eye after she broke the stereotypes to become one of the first women to ride e-rickshaw. Plying her trade along the Hatigaon route, Bora earns Rs 10 per customer and is now earning the keep for herself as well as her two little children.

Bora thought of purchasing an e-rickshaw as she felt like if she joined any other profession, she would be stripped of time and would not be able to take care of her young school-going kids. Taking a loan of Rupees 55,000 in March, 2019, she bought an e-rickshaw, and rest, as they say, is history.

"Since March 8, I have been riding the rickshaw. It has been a year, passing the year despite several troubles. If I do anything else, I won't be able to devote time for my kids; if I work for someone else, will have to do work for them. However, now, I can use my time as per my own convenience", she told us at Inside Northeast.

Bonasmi Bora, a youngster from Guwahati has opined that "A female has become self dependent. At a time when people are adopting unscrupulous methods to earn their keep, the lady has inspired the yout by earning money for herself and her two children through sheer will and determination."
