The Dibrugarh police arrested six person on Saturday for extorting money from a private hospital. According to sources, the incident took place on August 12 when group of people demanded an amount of Rs. 10 lakh from Damani’s Nursing Home accusing them of irregularities. The group of people accompanied by a local journalist reportedly threatened the hospital authorities of dire consequences if they failed to pay the amount demanded by them.
Though the hospital authorities paid a sum of Rupees ninety thousand initially, later they lodged a complaint with the police which led to the arrest of six person. The police are in the look out for rest of the people involved in the crime.
It may be mentioned that the crime graph have shot up in the state in last five months. Miscreants are taking advantage of the lockdown to commit crime. Police have also arrested a number of unscrupulous journalist involved in various crimes.
