DIBRUGARH: Hari Chandra Mahanta, the registrar of Dibrugarh University and deputy registrar (finance & accounts) Diganta Borah have been suspended for their alleged involvement in 'financial anomalies.'

After reports surfaced of suspected embezzlement of funds, the Assam governor cum Dibrugarh University chancellor had constituted a fact-finding committee to probe the alleged embezzlement of public funds by vice-chancellor Ranjit Tamuli.

According to reports, the committee has been constituted "to enquire into various allegations on financial irregularities, to verify and authenticate signatures, handwriting etc., in documents, to examine documents and ascertain facts, to interact with various persons concerned in order to ascertain facts, to do all necessary as per law in order to unearth facts."

It needs mention here that the teaching and student fraternity as well as the employees’ body of the university have staged protests against the alleged financial scam by the vice-chancellor.

In the meantime, Professor Jiten Hazarika, Department of Statistics, Dibrugarh University and Director in-charge of the Directorate of Open and Distance Learning will act as the interim registrar.

Paramananda Sonowal, Joint Registrar (Administration), will also look after finance and accounts till the completion of the disciplinary proceedings and till the further decision of the executive council on the same.
