Dima Hasao to Host 'Falcon Festival' from Nov 15-17

Umrangso, November 17, 2019:

Dima Hasao district of Assam is all set to host an Amur falcon festival from November 15 to November 17 next. The festival will be held in Umrangso.

The three-day festival will be held to create awareness about the amur falcon, a migratory bird that visits several parts of the Northeast, including Assam.

Amur falcons visit Dima Hasao district towards the end of October, or the beginning of November, each year at the New Tumbung Village Roosting Area in Dima Hasao, Assam. . However, many of these birds are killed by locals for fun.

Blue Hills Society, an NGO from Haflong, Dima Hasao along with North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council and Local NGO took up the initiative to protect our from harm's way.

They have collaborated with Wild Life Trust of India, Department of Forest (Assam), Dima Hasao District Administration, North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council and other local youth forums in this matter.

This festival has been organized after analyzing a huge response from the local people, youths, policy makers and other administrative departments.

Through this festival, NCHAC aims to boost the tourism sector of the district. Since the district is stocked with nature's bounty and rich in flora and fauna, this festival will be an invitation for tourists, researchers and nature enthusiasts to come and explore Dima Hasao.
