The rail blockade that was being held since 7 March in Dima Hasao district has finally been called off at 1:30 pm on Saturday after the Government extended a hand to the agitating bodies, offering to hold talks wherein they can express their grievances. The blockade was being organized by the NC Hills Indigenous Students’ Forum and Indigenous Women’s Forum.
The NC Hills Indigenous Students’ Forum, which had called for the blockage as a mark of protest to settle their long pending demand for the payment of Railway Compensation, had the following to say: “Having full trust and confidence upon the Government of Assam, the indefinite rail blockade called by the NC Hills Indigenous Students’ Forum and Indigenous Womens’ Forum in demand of B.G. Conversion Compensation for the affected people from 5 am on 7TH March 2019 is hereby called off on 9TH March at 1:30 pm after receiving invitation letter from the H’ble Chief Minister, Government of Assam for a final discussion to settle our long pending demand for the payment of Railway Compensation.”
It is to be mentioned that the joint meeting will be held on 11 March at 2 pm at Janata Bhawan, Dispur, Guwahati.
