Dimasa Associations have strongly condemned the indefinite bandh in Dima Hasao called by the Indigenous People’s Forum (IPF) from Tuesday onwards and sought a ban on the organisation for its communal and provocative statements.
As many as seven organisations have condemned the bandh and issued a statement condemning the IPF for calling the bandh. The statement read, “IPF’s demand for separate district on the basis of non-Dimasas being treated as second class citizens in the district is an utter false and fake propaganda and we oppose such kind of provoking and baseless statements.”

Terming the bandh totally illogical and unconstitutional, the Dimasa bodies said, “It will strongly affect the ongoing HSLC and HSSLC Examinations 2020 and the common people of Dima Sasao as a whole.”
The Dimasa Mothers’ Association (DMA), Dimasa Women’s Society (DWS), All Dimasa Students’ Union (ADSU), Dimasa Youth Forum (DYF), Dimasa Students’ Union (DSU) and Jadikhe Naisho Hoshomi (JNH) have jointly released the statement seeking an apology from the IPF for its provocative statements.

The organisations also alleged that the IPF was attempting to misguide the non-Dimasas of Dima Hasao in order to serve their public interest. The Dimasa organisations have urged the people to refrain from following the “indefinite bandh” called out by the IPF from February 11 onwards. “Instead maintain peace and prevailing brotherhood relationship among each other and work together hand in hand irrespective of tribe, caste, religion for the development and prosperity of the district.
It may be mentioned here that the IPF had called for an indefinite bandh demanding immediate implementation of the district’s bifurcation with separate autonomous councils.
