GUWAHATI: Assam's chief Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that the Assam police personnel are working day and night to protect the constitutional boundary of the state, apparently from encroachers.
Asked about the ongoing tensions with both Nagaland and Mizoram, Sarma admitted that "some tension is going on" in the bordering areas, and Assam police have been tasked with
"Assam police has been deployed to protect our constitutional boundary. Assam police have been working day and night to protect our constitutional boundary," he told newsmen.
Issuing a message to not "encroach our land", Sarma said that he is batting for mutual discussion and resolution of disputes along the border.
It needs mention here that Assam's Barak Valley districts of Cachar, Karimganj, and Hailakandi share a 164 km long border with Mizoram's three districts of Aizawl, Kolasib, and Mamit.

Following a territorial dispute, there were clashes along the inter-state border in August 2020 and February this year.
At the day-long chief secretary-level meeting held at Gujarat Bhavan here, the Assam government delegation proposed the maintenance of the status quo of pre-clash position and subsequent withdrawal of security forces from the disputed areas, officials said.
However, the Mizoram government team sought time for further consultations and refused to sign any agreement.
On the other hand, Nagaland and Assam share a 512-kilometer boundary and a dispute that has been going on for over five decades.
