Action-superstar Akshay Kumar made national headlines after he donated Rs 2 crores for the flood victims of Assam. Yesterday, Akshay shared his two-cents on the situation while attending the trailer launch of his upcoming film, 'Mission Mangal'.
While being asked about his 'double dhamaka' donations for the flood affected of Assam (1 crore for the people, 1 crore for Kaziranga animals), he said that he learnt about the calamity in Assam after he saw a picture of a woman affected due to the floods. "I saw a picture of a woman parting the flood with her child in her arms, and I considered that I am lucky that it is not happening to me. I though it could happen to anyone, to me or my wife, to my daughter", he said.
The 'Khiladi' also said that offering "thoughts and prayers" is not enough and people should "react" to it and donate. He urged people to not just leave their commiserations on Twitter, and spring into action. "Be it 25 paise, 25 lakhs, or 25 crores, donate as much as is feasible for you", Akshay said.
Earlier, saying that he wa “heartbroken” to know about the devastation caused by the floods across 30 districts in the state, the Bollywood hunk had offered to donate a crore each for the rescue efforts at Kaziranga and also for the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, totalling a sum of Rupees two crores.
Taking to social media platform Twitter, the ‘Khiladi’ wrote: “Absolutely heartbreaking to know about the devastation by floods in Assam. All affected, humans or animals, deserve support in this hour of crisis.I’d like to donate 1cr each to the CM Relief Fund & for Kaziranga Park rescue.”
