GUWAHATI: In a major breakthrough, the Assam Police on late Saturday night arrested as many as six drugs mafia with a huge consignment of drugs from Sonapur Guwahati city.

Police seized 1.2 kg heroin from their possession.

The drugs were seized from a Tata Bolero.

Police made the seizure of the contraband drugs near the Sonapur Toll Gate.

According to sources, the seized heroin is valued at approximately more than Rs 7 crore in international markets.

The heroin consignment (100 packets) was seized from a Tata Bolero.

The drugs, according to sources, were stuffed into various parts of the car, including the engine compartment, seats, tail lamps, and so on.

According to preliminary investigations, the drugs were smuggled into Assam from the state of Manipur.

Further investigation is underway in order to completely demolish this drug network, said police.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also shared the major success of the Assam police in its crusade against the drugs mafia in the state.
