GUWAHATI: A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.1 was reported near the India-Myanmar border today morning and the tremors were felt in Guwahati.
The epicentre of the earthquake was 183 kilometres east of Chittagong in Bangladesh (Myanmar-India border region). According to the Seismology Center, the quake occured at 5.15am.
Tremors were felt as far away as in Assam, West Bengal, and Tripura in eastern India.
As per user testimonies posted by the EMSC on its website, the earthquake was a “long shake” for about 30 seconds in most parts of Kolkata and Guwahati, where the effects were felt.
