Guwahati, March 28, 2019:

An former Editor of English daily ‘The Sentinel’, Bikash Sarma, has been sentenced to one-month imprisonment by the Magistrate’s court of Kamrup district for carrying allegations against Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Addressing the media, senior advocate Debajit Saikia said, "The case was registered against Editor Bikash Sarma, Associate Editor Ram Lal Sinha, KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi and Omega printers. The court granted bail for Associate Editor Ram Lal Sinha and KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi. However, Bikash Sarma has been fined with an amount of Rs 5000.”

A report was published in The Sentinel on June 19th, 2010 quoting Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi that R H Khan had gifted a luxurious car to Himanta Biswa Sarma.
