DHUBRI: An eight-year-old girl drowned in the river Brahmaputra at Bahadurtari, Dhubri in Assam while she was bathing.
The deceased has been identified as Rifa Tanzim Islam (8) daughter of Rafiqul Islam, a resident of Ward No-11, Bahadurtari, Dhubri.
The incident took place on Monday afternoon while the girl and her cousin went for a bath in the river near their house.
According to sources, the girl slipped into the current of the flooded river and was swept away as she couldn't return to the river bank due to the strong current of water.

Immediately, her cousin informed Rifa's father about the incident.
Locals and her family members rushed to the spot and started searching for her. However, they failed to find her.
Later, her father filed a missing report with the Bazar T.O.P. Dhubri.
A search operation by the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) divers and police is underway for two days now, but no trace of the girl has been made so far.
