GUWAHATI: The District Election Officer of Kamrup Metropolitan district has imposed restrictions on the printing of election pamphlets, posters etc. as the Model Code of Conduct is in force. The order is as per section 127A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

 

According to a notice issued by the District Election Officer, no person shall print or publish any election pamphlet or poster without mentioning the names and addresses of printer and publisher on its face.

 

Moreover, any election pamphlet or poster should have a declaration as to the identity of the publisher signed by himself and attested by two persons to whom he is personally known which is to be delivered by him to the printer in duplicate. On the other hand, after printing of the document, the printer should send one copy of the declaration together with the copy of document to the Chief Electoral Officer in the case of capital of the State or to the district magistrate in case of the district in which it is printed.

Earlier, political posters from public properties and government establishments were removed on February 26, shortly after the Election Commission of India announced the poll dates for upcoming Assam Elections 2021 as the model code of conduct came into force.

 

Elections to the 126 member Assam assembly will be held in three phases in the state. The first phase will be held on March 27 which will see polling for 47 constituencies, second phase will be held on April 1 for 39 seats and the remaining 40 seats will go for polls on April 6. Results will be declared on May 2. The term of the 14th legislative assembly of Assam is up to 31 May 2021.
