Guwahati, December 23, 2018:
The great West Indian cricketing legend Sir Vivian Richards graced the office of InsideNe in Guwahati on Sunday. He is the Brand Ambassador of Manipal’s American University of Antigua and is in India for the second part of its ‘Made for Medicine’ tour. Richards was accompanied by Mamta and Joshua, representatives from the Manipal group, and well-known Guwahati-based medical practitioner Dr. Prakritish Bora.
Sir Viv had the following to say about the campaign: “It has been a great campaign from my perspective. It has been a win-win situation for me, as a representative of that part of the world. It is a part of our tourism product. They (medical students) are going to be in a beautiful place and we are going to take care of them.”
Joshua from the Manipal group added: “Manipal’s American University of Antigua is part of the Manipal Education and medical group and it started in 2004 in Antigua. Sir Viv has been a part of the journey since Day 1. We are here to ease the struggles of medical students as 14 lakh students appear in the exams while seats are only 68,000.”
The University has been accredited by the Medical Council of India on November, 2016. Apart from India, medical students who pass out from Manipal’s American University of Antigua are eligible to practice in all 50 US states as well as in the UK and Canada. Easing concerns of the Medical Council of India’s screening test for doctors who receive their education abroad, Mamta, another representative of Manipal, assured that there is no need to appear for the exam once residency is complete.
During his discourse with InsideNE, Richards also promoted the campaign #SayYes2HealthyLife. Exuding confidence about the prospects of InsideNe which had a humble beginning, Richards said, “Everything starts from a small place. Look at me, I am from Antigua!”
Meanwhile, InsideNe is organizing a quiz of the ‘Made for Medicine’ tour. Three lucky winners will get to meet, greet and receive a signed cricket bat from the legend at Vivanta by Taj in Guwahati on 27th dec from 4pm to 6pm
