Explained: Why Dima Hasao's Daniel Langthasa wants to 'resign' from CongressDANIEL LANGTHASA

HAFLONG: Daniel Langthasa, young Congress leader from Dima Hasao district of Assam, created a flutter on social media, when he announced that he would resign from the party.

Talking to InsideNE over the phone, Langthasa today informed that he has decided to keep the decision on hold seeing the reactions on social media.

"After I announced my decision on social media, there were many people who implored me to stay back. The party leaders and also its high command have exhorted me to reconsider the move. Since this is a decision that does not impact me alone, I have decided to stay back for the time being and mull over the decision."

Asked why he had announced such a dramatic move just ahead of the Assembly polls in Assam, Daniel said, "See, let me clarity at the beginning that I had not demanded a party ticket to contest the polls. One person applied who was the president. However, according to a resolution that was taken last year, if the president applies for the ticket, the presidentship shall be given to someone else. However, that was not done and this particular person was not willing to step down."

Daniel said that he is a bit disillusioned due to the "lobbyism and groupism" in the Dima Hasao Congress  as "there seems to be no proper democratic way of taking decisions."

"When someone questions the moves and dare to speak out, they are labelled as a dissenter. Respecting the party leadership and how an organization works, I accepted the person who is going to contest from Haflong. However, if you are losing elections, you have to take all the factors into considerations. The current candidate has lost several times already."

Langthasa further says that he wants the Congress to "win elections" instead of "cheating the supporters."

"I want the Congress to be more democratic and to win elections instead of the members just holding positions of power. The supporters of the party should not be cheated."
