EXTENSIVE EARTHQUAKE MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR QUAKE-PRONE KAMRUP DISTRICT

An extensive earthquake management plan has been prepared for the quake-prone Kamrup district. Guwahati is the gateway to Northeast for which an effective earthquake management plan is of utmost importance. The basic objectives of the plan are to reduce earthquake risks by reducing liability of people and infrastructure, and to build the capacity of all stakeholders in the district to cope with calamity.

The other objectives are to enhance district resilience to cope with future earthquakes and better preparation of reconstruction and rehabilitation. Divided into nine chapters with annexure, the plan gives an idea for betterment of its objective and perspective.

It also describes the operationalization of the District Emergency Operation Center as to how information disseminates from one stakeholder to another, and how early warning disseminates from the State emergency operation center to the district up to revenue circle level.
