Newly-elected Lok Sabha MP Abdul Khaleque's mother Sabura Khatun (75) has been served a National Register of Citizens (NRC) objection notice and the objection had allegedly been filed by a certain Hriday Ranjan Nath, as per the notice which was issued. As it turns out, the objections have come from a "fake objector."
But surprisingly, when the Congress leader and newly-elected MP Khaleque accompanied his mother to submit the requisite documents to the Barpeta-located NRC Hearing Centre on Monday, the objector himself was nowhere to be found.
Khaleque says that his mother's name was enlisted in the 1951 NRC as well as the 1970 voters' list and has added that his mother was born in Kalgachia Bortari village in Assam.
Now, Khaleque has joined the long list of of persons and organizations who have alleged that genuine citizens are being harassed in the name of NRC.
Speaking to Inside Northeast, Khaleque that the absence of the objectioner proves that there is no cause for worry for his mother as she possesses all the required documents.
It may be mentioned that many organizations have alleged that there is a contrived effort of certain miscreants to deprive genuine citizens during the NRC process.
In fact, the All Assam Minorities Students’ Union (AAMSU) on May 21 staged a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi following the allegations of discrepancies in the claims and objections in the National Register of Citizens (NRC) draft.
The protest was staged against NRC Coordinator Prateek Hajela, and other regional organizations for allegedly harassing people in the name of registering objections before the NRC publication.
Moreover, Dhing MLA Aminul Islam has alleged that many Objections were entered after the final date of filing Objections. He further accused concerned officials of forging signatures in the name of ‘jatiya dayitya’ (indigenous responsibility). He also complained that many of the objectors themselves were missing from the NRC Hearing Centres. Moreover, Islam too mentioned the "fake objector" menace to the minority.
