The National Register of Citizens (NRC) authorities of Assam have finally published the list showing the fates of all 3.30 crore applicants who were part of the NRC activities in Assam. The list has been published online. The list was meant to root out illegal immigrants in the state.
The latest list has been published after 19 lakh applicants were excluded from the final NRC released on August 31. This final list includes the names of those who have been accepted as citizens, and also those who have been rejected and those whose appeals are pending. Interestingly, the new list will also allow individuals to check on the statuses of their family members.
The first NRC draft excluded nearly 41 lakh people. In the August 31 list, NRC that number came down to 19 lakh.
The nineteen lakh omitted from the list will now prove their citizenship at foreigners' tribunals spread across the state.
After the publication of the NRC, Prateek Hajela, the State Coordinator, NRC had said, “A total of 3,11,21,004 persons have been found eligible for inclusion in the final draft, leaving out 19,06,657 persons, including those who did not submit their claims.”
